This website is designed to showcase my photography, past, and work in progress. I have been involved in photography from my days at school developing my own films in Dad’s workshop, spending time during the holidays with the police photographer, I can still smell the chemicals to this day. After leaving school I went to Northampton school of Art on a foundation course and eventually trained as a photographer in Kent with a firm of aero marine specialists. I started here mixing chemicals, moving prints through the washes and on to the drying drums, I learned to print, process film, retouch, hand colour and finally trained as an aerial photographer. I then went on to spend three years at West Surrey College of Art and Design, to broaden my understanding of photography. Following my degree show I then spent the next eight years working for a publisher shooting for books and library stock, in Europe, New Zealand and the United States.
I moved to Cornwall in 1987 to be with the rest of my family who had moved here to start a hotel business on the Lizard. I started a self driven B&W landscape project based around the local coast, and built a darkroom to hone and expand my printing skills, exhibited by the Folio Gallery, prints retained by the Texaco foundation, and gained an ARPS distinction. I ran weekend courses from the hotel for landscape enthusiasts, and this became my first taste of teaching, I then ran the photographic unit at Cornwall College, providing them with press and award winning prospectus photography, taught on a level Media Studies, and was the course leader for G&G photography modules. Redundancy pushed me back into freelance work, continuing to teach C&G I photographed a wide variety of projects for industry and tourism. In 2003 I joined the staff at University College Falmouth, here being responsible for inducting students into all aspects of photographic practice, with specific responsibility for digital post production, I took early retirement in 2011 leaving as Deputy Head of the Photography Centre. I remain as keen as ever about making images, and am continuing several long term projects, some of this continuing work is displayed on these pages.
